Halo 4 Racing
Race gametype
As all of you have found out, there is no race gametype in Halo 4. Fortunately we have learned to adapt so racing is not dead, it is just different. Masta Hippie has developed a racing gametype using King of the Hill. This gametype uses a single hill that has one way shield doors that push you through the hill for exactly one second. CoookkieMonster has written a full RACETRACKS gametype tutorial that explains how to set up your tracks to work with the gametype.
Unfortunately this gametype only works if everyone is on the same team. Otherwise, when more than one person goes through the hill it will be contested and no one gets any points. The individual scoring is the time spent in the hill which can be seen by clicking the back button in game. This will work for tournaments where everyone lines up at the end and the host checks that everyone has done the set amount of laps.
To get the Racetracks gametype, search for 'Masta Hippie' in Halo 4. Everyone that already has the gametype will need to download the latest version because there have been slight alterations.
File sharing
At the moment there is no file sharing system on the Halo Waypoint website, so tracks can only be downloaded by searching for the map creator’s file share in game. Map Makers and Non-Map Makers can still post their tracks in the map gallery.
Screenshots also can’t be accessed on the Halo Waypoint website, so Jeffh3962 and Yugnoswam are offering their services to get screenshots and videos for you by using their capture cards. Check out the Screenshot Request Thread if you are in need of screenshots or would like to offer your services in help of the community.
The future of race
There are hopes that 343 Industries will add a race gametype, however, this is unlikely because there is no profit in developing it and there are a lot of other things in Halo 4 that also need to be added/fixed. It’s best that we just make the most of what we currently have for the time being. HaloTracks thrives on overcoming times of tribulation. There are still many ways for us to grow, but it is imperative that we work towards that as we always have.
TFFKAD1 has created a petition to request that 343i add a racing gametype to Halo 4. Everyone, please sign it. Halo 4 Race Petition
Squads
CoookkieMonster has brought back the Dirty Racing League and is hosting weekly tournaments. Anyone can sign up and join in the carnage.
All squads are greatly encouraged to start new seasons and/or races as soon as they have enough means to do so. There will be many improvements to squads throughout the duration of the new site version as well. Squad "reboots" can be greatly accelerated by encouraging and creating incentives for members to forge tracks for that squad.
Featured Maps
Featured maps will be returning soon. Stay tuned for more info.
Halo 4 Tracks
Many popular racing variants are returning in Halo 4. Just about every type of track has been made in Halo 4 except city tracks because crossovers don't work with the gametype.
Battletracks and Rocket Race
x DREAM 76 x has recreated the Battle Tracks gametypes using King of the Hill. Battle Tracks uses multiple gates hills next to each other to avoid contested hills, however, it is impossible to make it so you only do damage in a mongoose, so it has the honesty rule of no shooting on foot. Dream has also recreated Rocket Race by using a lot of random moving hills. These gametypes can be downloaded from his file share. Tutorials about how to set up your maps for these gametypes may be written at a later date.
Terrain
CoookkieMonster, WhiskeyWarm and many other people have been mass producing terrain tracks that are styled like classic tracks from Halo 3. These tracks have proven to be very popular and easy to make. CoookkieMonster hosted a Halo 3 Style Racetrack Challenge that is currently finished and the top 5 tracks will be up for voting soon.
Roller Derby
and Masta Hippie have developed a roller derby system that works with the Racetracks gametype. Roller Derby now has two teams that drive laps in opposite directions and uses base shields set to specific teams to make it completely uncheatable. A tutorial about how to set up your track for Roller Derby may be written at a later date.
Demo
WhiskeyWarm has figured out a complicated method to get Demo racing to work in Halo 4. Racers are on blue/red teams and blockers are on cyan/orange teams. Colored base shields are used so that only racers can score points in the hill and blockers can do laps in any direction. Trait zones are also used to give the racers waypoints over their heads. A discussion of the development of the Demo gametype can be read in the Demo – Team Race topic. A tutorial about how to set up your track for Demo may be written at a later date.
Christmas Tracks
CoookkieMonster is hosting another forging challenge this month. This time the challenge is to make a Christmas themed map for the holiday season. Check out the Christmas Forging Challenge for more information.
Ranks
Map Makers
All Map Makers have been reset for Halo 4 to ensure all of our current and future Map Makers can forge Halo 4 race tracks. If you were a Map Maker for Halo: Reach or Halo 3, then you can reapply with only one track. If you have not been a Map Maker before, then you need to apply with two tracks. Distinguished members do not need to reapply. All tracks submitted for Map Maker applications must work with the racetracks gametype (or similar if you manage to make a better gametype). Read the Map Maker Requirements topic for more information.
Elite Map Makers
The elite map maker rank will be returning for Halo 4. If you are interested in this position then you must be a very active and good race track forger. You must produce at least 2 high quality tracks per month and have 5 tracks in the map gallery. Read the Elite Map Maker Requirements topic for more information. You cannot apply for this position. If you are worthy, we shall find you.
Head Map Maker
CoookkieMonster has shown dedication to the site and so has earned a promotion to Head Map Maker. He will now review the map maker applications and provide forge assistance to anyone that needs it. For anyone that has dreams of becoming a staff member for HaloTracks please remember that you will not be promoted if you ask for it, you have to earn it just like Coookkie did.
Points
The HT store will soon feature real rewards to spend your HT points on. These rewards include HaloTracks posters, t-shirts, Microsoft Points, capture cards, and much more in the future. Store items are not going to be cheap, by any means, so make sure you're building up your tournament points over time. HT points have been reset to give every member a fair chance to claim these rewards. Members now have 250 points, members that had over 1000 points now have 500 and the winners of the Best of Halo Reach competition now have 1000 with an extra 100 for each additional category won. Existing New Members have 125 points, with future New Members starting with 25. Points can be earned by posting, racing in tournaments and entering challenges on the site, however, tournament points will only be distributed when the new site version is released (date unknown).
If you save up a lot of points you may even be able to buy a photo of the mysterious Masta Hippie.
CoookkieMonster was mentioned 8 times in this update. Masta Hippie Masta Hippie Masta Hippie Masta Hippie Masta Hippie. That's better.
