HT Update - 10 Feb
10 February 2013 - 05:24 AM

Two whole months without an update? That Head Journalist sure is lazy.
Featured Tracks
Regular featured tracks shall be making a return. Approximately once per month a stand out track will be chosen for feature by the HaloTracks staff. If lots of tracks are posted, tracks will be featured more often. We have decided not to bring back community voting at this point in time as we believe it will not receive the desired amount of votes. Be active on the forums and we shall bring back the voting.
Only tracks that are posted in the HaloTracks map gallery will be eligible for feature so make sure all your tracks are posted there. If you need screenshots of your tracks then make a request in the Screenshot Request Thread.
Elite Map Makers
WhiskeyWarm and Lord FluffBall have been promoted as our first Halo 4 +Elite Map Makers. They have proven that they are currently the best map makers on HaloTracks by making lots of high quality tracks and posting them in our map gallery.
If you are interested in trying to become an elite map maker then read the elite map maker requirements.
Monkey Business
EoE Oh SNAP has been promoted as our newest Code Monkey. EoE will assist the other code monkeys with the coding for the site as he develops his coding skills.
The code monkeys are currently hard at work revamping the tournament system that was initially created by Killer200O and other unmentioned contributors. This system will include exciting features such as semi-automated tournament hosting, racing leaderboards, map leaderboards, betting, true skill & experience ranking (similar to the ranking in Halo 3), and much more. This unique system will be unmatched by any other Halo site. We will be releasing an ALPHA of the tournament system soon. Stay tuned for more information.
Mad Hatter, Zerker24 and EoE Oh SNAP have had many sleepless nights coding this tournament system. They have truly done an amazing job so far and been mostly unnoticed for it. Please thank and support them for their hard work and dedication to the site.
If you would like to help then please start hosting and entering tournaments to increase the amount of tournament activity for when the system gets released.
File browsing
343 Industries have finally activated the in game file browser. The new features that are now available are custom search filters, most downloaded files and most recommended files. Maps can still be downloaded using the same method of searching for the map maker's file share. The complete file browser that includes direct links to maps will be released at the end of February.
Squads
HT Supercross is currently hosting races for their fifth season. To sign up for HT Supercross and join their races, visit the HT Supercross forums.
The Dirty Racing League is now hosting four tournaments per week and giving sign up priority to those that have not yet raced in a DRL tournament on any given week. This will ensure that everyone has a chance to race. To sign up for the DRL squad and join their tournaments, visit the Dirty Racing League forums.
HaloTracks YouTube
The HaloTracks YouTube channel is soon going to be revived. Make sure you subscribe now so that you do not miss any of the future videos. The best video editors on HaloTracks shall be making videos for this channel and only the highest quality videos will be featured. If you consider yourself to be a good video editor and want to make Halo racing related videos for the channel then keep an eye out for information about how to submit videos to the channel.
One of the videos that will be uploaded to the channel is a monthly top 10 track countdown. This series is hosted by Masta Hippie and Purple Dinosaur and only includes tracks that are posted in the HaloTracks map gallery. Post your tracks in the gallery for your chance to get in the countdown.
Some HaloTracks members also run their own YouTube channels that feature Halo racing videos. Subscribe to their channels to stay up to date with all the latest race tracks.

We would also like to encourage everyone to be active on the forums by entering events, posting your tracks in the gallery and commenting on other people’s maps. Commenting on maps is currently one of the only ways to earn you HT points and will increment your post count.

January Top 10 Tournament
Last minute tournament but it is important and I am away next week. Purpledinosaur and I are going to make a monthly top 10 video for the tracks posted in the map gallery during each month. This tournament is to get some good clips for each track. The video will be put onto the HaloTracks Youtube channel if it is good.

- No moaning about your position unless you are in last place.
- All races will be 5 laps unless otherwise stated.

Masta Mayhem Tournament #1 Results

Masta Mayhem Tournament #1 Results
Great tournament. The things I wanted to test such as the alternative starting method and the hardcore gametype seemed to work well. Fluffy Mayhem was not a good track for tournaments so we skipped it. Next time I will not include unsuitable tracks. Bean was winning for most of the tournament but the double points on Ho Ho HC allowed Nuked to take the win. Purple and Hatter both had to leave so got last place for every race they did not participate in. Purple did so well in the first few races that he still finished 8th.
Race results:

Final standings:
1. NukedlceCream - 100
2. Bean05 - 97
3. Possante - 95
4. Masta Hippie - 87
4. Jeffh3692 - 87
6. Eoe Oh Snap - 75
7. Kiddioo - 72
8. PurpleDinousaur0 - 68
9. Xion Thunder - 62
10. IRmrCOOKIE - 61
11. Hatter is Mad - 56 -

- At the start of the race everyone will get on their mongooses and NOT MOVE. Maps with starting gates will start on the starting gate unless it doesn’t activate for everybody.

- No cheating, or attempting to cheat the track in any way.
- Wrecking is allowed and encouraged.
- If you die you will need to restart the lap. Sky tracks don't have bordering so dying will be common.
Hardcore rules
- Hardcore tracks contain forms of obstacles and traps to hinder racers that. These obstacles vary from stop pillars to drop holes and beyond.
- You can do almost anything while you drive to wreck other racers. For example; intentional wrecking, break checking, shield door checking, etc but you absolutely cannot drive backwards during a race.
- There are 3 rounds and 3,4 or 5 laps per round (depending on track size).
- During the first round the race starts on initial hill move (when the announcer says "hill moved" about 15 seconds into the race). The second round, the race starts on initial hill move as well. On the third round however, the race starts instantly!
- Everyone has 1 life per round.
- The person with the most laps completed gets first, second most gets second, etc. Deaths count as -1 laps.

How are the tracks decided?
Random numbers between 1 and the amount of tracks in the database are generated using random.org. Each track in the database is assigned a number. The newest track in General tracks is 1, the second newest track in General tracks is 2, the newest track in Terrain is 29 (changes depending on amount of general tracks), etc. The tracks that match the random numbers are then found. General tracks, Terrain tracks, Tournament tracks, Motocross tracks, Mayhem tracks and Roller Coaster tracks are all used for these tournaments.
Make sure you post all your tracks in the database so that they can be used for my tournaments.
There will be a poll in this topic to veto any tracks that would potentially be bad for tournaments. This is to ensure everyone is happy with the map choices. If a track gets enough votes, a new track will be chosen using the random number method. Tracks can only be vetoed once so you are stuck with whatever is chosen after a veto.
